Description
In Splunk Enterprise versions below 8.1.12, 8.2.9, and 9.0.2, an authenticated user can perform an extensible markup language (XML) external entity (XXE) injection via a custom View. The XXE injection causes Splunk Web to embed incorrect documents into an error.
Solution
For Splunk Enterprise, upgrade versions to 8.1.12, 8.2.9, 9.0.2, or higher.
For Splunk Cloud Platform, Splunk is actively patching and monitoring the Splunk Cloud instances.

Mitigations and Workarounds
Workarounds include restricting who can upload lookup files and disabling Splunk Web. The vulnerability affects instances with Splunk Web enabled. See Disable unnecessary Splunk Enterprise components and the web.conf configuration specification file for more information on disabling Splunk Web.
